PRINCESS CUT DIAMONDS

Princess Cut Diamond

Princess Cut Diamonds have become very, very popular with modern brides in recent years.  It’s not difficult to understand why. Although the Brilliant Cut – sometimes simply called Round- is the perennial favorite, modern brides have taken a great fancy to all of the squarish cut diamonds, including Cushion Cut, Asher Cut, Emerald Cut and Princess Cut.

The Princess is very versatile and there looks beautiful in many different setting styles. Also the Princess usually prices out significantly less than other diamond cuts, making a Princess Cut Engagment Ring a great buy!

ADVANTAGES OF THE PRINCESS CUT DIAMOND

The Princess Cut diamond has three great advantages over the other squarish cut diamonds.

PRINCESS CUT USUALLY COST LESS

The actual cut of the Princess was developed to conserve as much of the rough diamond as possible.  This means that there is less waste in the cutting process.  For the consumer, it means that you can purchase a Princess Cut diamond for a much better price than comparable sizes of the other cuts.

PRINCESS CUT HAS LOTS OF SPARKLE

In addition, the Princess is actually cut with facets that more closely resemble those of the Brilliant Cut which means it has more facets and has more sparkle and fire that other square cut diamonds.  If you look at Asher and Emerald cut diamonds you will see that they have a large flat table (the top of the diamond) and instead of the facets that you find in the Brilliant Cut, they are cut in little steps. All of this means that the Princess Cut refracts light beautifully, making it sparkle in a manner that you expect from a beautiful diamond.

PRINCESS CUT DIAMONDS ARE VERY VERSATILE

Princess Cut diamonds are very versatile and can be calibrated, meaning that they can be cut to certain millimeter sizes.  The advantage of this is that Princess Cut diamonds, which are calibrated in cut, can be set together in a ring in a special setting called Invisible Setting or they can be Channel Set.

INVISIBLE SETTING FOR PRINCESS CUT DIAMONDS

INVISIBLE SET DIAMONDS

The invisible setting is one in which the Princess Cuts diamonds, which have all been cut to exactly the same width and length, can be set close together without any prongs or metal in between. The diamond cutter make a little groove in the girdle (or side) of one diamond and fits the next diamond into the groove…..think of those little plastic Leggos! When a master diamond setter works with invisible settings, it is very, very difficult to see the seams between the diamonds.

ADVANTAGES OF INVISIBLE SETTING

This Invisible Setting has several advantages.  If you are almost unable to see the seams between the diamonds, the designer can place 4 or more small Princess Cut diamonds in the center of an Engagement Ring, which appears to be one large, beautiful Princess Cut diamond and the cost to you will be much less because, in general smaller diamonds are less expensive that larger diamonds.  This is an excellent way to buy an impressive Engagement Ring and stay within your budget! PRINCESS QUAD

A Princess Quad is the name given to a ring with 4  invisible set, Princess Cut diamonds in the center of the ring.  Not only is this a beautiful style, but there is no doubt that its popularity is at least partially due to fact, that using 4 small diamonds, instead of one large diamond, lowers the cost to you. It is a great way to get a lot of  “bang for your buck!”

PRINCESS QUAD WITH CHANNEL ACCENTS

The classic Princess Quad is designed with channel set accents. And this is a contemporary style that is equally beautiful in White Gold or Yellow Gold. This is our version of this Classic Bridal Set in 14kt white gold and 14kt yellow gold.

VINTAGE STYLE WITH PRINCESS QUAD

Don’t forget that the Princess Quad style is beautiful when vintage style elements are added to the design.  Check out our Vintage Princess Quad Wedding Ring Set>>

VINTAGE QUAD WITH HALOS

The versatility of the invisible setting can easily be seen when the range of styles is from the most contemporary to beautiful and unique vintage style settings. Often these setting include diamond halos (or frames around the center diamond) and diamond accented shanks.  These accents are most usually accomplished with little round diamonds, called melee, which serve to soften the architectural appearance of the Princess Cut diamonds and result in beautiful Vintage style Engagement Rings>>  and Vintage Style Bridal Sets>>

CHANNEL SETTING FOR PRINCESS CUT DIAMONDS

Channel Setting is another version of the Invisible Setting. In this type of setting, not only are the Princess Cut diamonds set close together without seams, but the designer places a row of these invisible set diamonds in a row, or rut, that has been carved out of the gold.  The gold ridge is pulled over two opposite exposed ends of the Princess Cut diamonds.  This creates a beautiful ribbon of diamonds with a lot of sparkle and as an extra advantage, it protects the diamonds beautifully.

CUSHION CUT ENGAGEMENT RINGS

A Cushion Cut is generally a square cut diamond, although some of them can be more rectangular.  Their four corners of this diamond are "cut off" so there are no sharp corners.  As we have already mentioned, Cushion Cut diamonds get a lot of attention and are quite sought-after....the only problem here is that Cushion Cut diamonds tend to be much more expensive than Brilliant Cut or Princess Cut diamonds of the same diamond weight.

But if you love the look of a Cushion Cut Engagement Ring, we have a solution for you.

CUSHION SHAPE HALO FOR PRINCESS CUT DIAMOND

When a Princess Cut diamond is set in a Cushion Shape Halo it really gives you the look you are after at a much better price.  Here is what to look for: When the diamond halo, or frame, around the Princess Cut...or around the Invisible Setting Princess Cut diamonds has rounded or curved corners, it softens the appearance of the very square Princess Cut diamonds.  The result is the same softness you could achieve with the more expensive Cushion Cut diamond, but at a much better price!

Here are some examples of a Princess Cut diamond in a Cushion Shaped Halo that we have in stock:
