MARQUISE CUT DIAMONDS

MARQUISE CUT DIAMOND Marquise diamonds, which are considered “fancy” cut diamonds,  are becoming quite popular again and there are very good reasons for this.

SHAPE OF THE MARQUISE

The marquise shape diamond is sometime called a “navette”, the French word for little boat as a marquise diamond does resemble the shape of a canoe – an elongated oval with points at each end. The marquise is actually cut much like a round diamond in a modified brilliant cut with 58 facts to reflect the light. The marquise is noted for a "bow tie" appearance in the center of the diamond.

HISTORY OF MARQUISE CUT

The marquise cut has quite an interesting history. Supposedly the cut of this diamond originated with King Louis XV of France in the 1700s. He wanted a diamond cut that would resemble the smile of  his mistress,  the Marquise de Pompadour and so commissioned this cut.

ADVANTAGES OF THE MARQUISE CUT

Other than the fact that this fancy cut diamond is very beautiful, it has several specific advantages:

         APPEARS LARGER

The marquise is the diamond with the largest table (the top flat part of the diamond) for the carat size and therefore can appear larger than other cut diamonds of the same size.

ELONGATES AND SLIM THE FINGERS

The marquise is valued by women because on the hand, it is a very graceful stone that appears to elongate and slim the fingers.

         BARGAIN IN PRICE

Because of the way the Marquise is cut, there is less waste of the rough diamond. This means that a Marquise Engagement Ring can cost less that another with the size diamond of a different shape.

FANCY CUT DIAMOND

This is the perfect cut for someone who would like something a little different and is a great opportunity to purchase an engagement ring with a fancy cut diamond without breaking the bank.

SETTINGS FOR THE MARQUISE

Marquise diamonds are usually set with 6 prongs as opposed to 4 prongs most often used with Round diamonds or Princess Cut diamonds.  Two prongs are placed on each side and one at each tip.  The prongs at the tip also help protect the tips from chipping. A contoured gold wedding made is specially made for this ring to fit up under the asymmetrical design.

Because of the length of the marquise diamond it is usually set with other diamonds as accents.  There are two most popular styles:

            MARQUISE BY PASS

MARQUISE ENGAGEMENT RING IN YELLOW GOLDThis classic style  of marquise diamond setting features an asymmetrical swoop design in which the center diamond is not set in the exact middle of the ring. This looks great on long, slim fingers, as it will reach rather high on the finger. This ring is accented with the ever-popular baguette diamonds, which are little rectangles, in a channel setting and small round diamonds called "melee."  These accent diamond complement the shape of the marquise perfectly and create a very artistic and feminine ring which has become a classic.

MARQUISE CUT ENGAGEMENT RING IN WHITE GOLD

This ring is particularly beautiful on the hand and has become a classic style in either white gold or yellow gold.  We sell this ring is three carat total weights: 1/2 carat, 1 carat and 1 1/2 carats - in either white gold or yellow gold.

MARQUISE CATHEDRAL BRIDGE

MARQUISE CATHEDRAL BRIDGE RING IN YELLOW GOLDThis is a more modern take on a setting which consist of a wide band embellished with  channel set baguettes and round diamonds.  It appears to be three ring with the middle portion rising in a graceful cathedral arch while the bands on either side are lower, forming a bridge. The center band - which appears to be a separate engagement ring - is accented with beautiful channel set baguette diamonds.  The bands on either side boast round diamonds in a channel setting. It gives the appearance of the popular  "stacked" look and yet is very comfortable to wear as one ring.MARQUISE CATHEDRAL BRIDGE RING IN WHITE GOLD

This ring can be worn by itself or a separate wedding band can easily be added. Again, this is a ring that is beautiful in either white gold or yellow gold.  It is a bold, stunning look.

We sell this popular style in 4 carat weights: 1 carat, 1 1/2 carats, 2 carats and 3 carats - in either white gold or yellow gold.
