HOW THE 4Cs - CARAT WEIGHT, COLOR, CLARITY, CUT - AFFECT PRICE

The relationship of the 4-C’s is what determines the price of the diamond. So you have to decide what is most important to you – Size or Quality. Read more about the 4-Cs>>

SIZE OF THE DIAMOND IS THE FIRST FACTOR THAT AFFECTS PRICE

This is easy to understand if you look at our Vintage Engagement Ring page.  The Pave Princess is one of our most popular rings and we offer it is several diamond sizes. The bigger the diamond, the most expensive the ring.

CARAT AND TOTAL CARAT WEIGHT

Diamond size is calculated in “weight” which is measured by “carats.”  There are two ways to determine diamond weight in a ring.  The first is the “total weight” of the ring – which means the total carat weight of all the diamonds in the ring.  The larger the total carat weight the higher the price will be.

Since we offer most of our styles in several different carat weights, you can fall in love with a particular style and then find the carat weight that you can afford!

The second way to calculate size is by the carat weight of the center diamond.  If  you notice in the three rings above, the center stones start at ¼ carat and go up to ½ carat and ¾ carat.  The larger the center diamond, the more expensive the ring will be.

MONEY SAVING TIP:

You can save a little money here, if you would like because diamonds do not go up gradually in price.  They tend to jump at certain carat weights like ½ carat and 1 carat.  So if you would like a ½ carat center, but it is too expensive, look for a ring that has 3/8 carat center.  It is just a little smaller than a ½ carat, but will generally appear to be a ½ carat size – especially if it has a diamond halo around it.  With a carat size, look for a 7/8 carat and save a little money.

HOW DIAMOND SIZE RELATES TO PRICE

So why do diamonds “jump” in price at certain weights, like 1 carat?  Our Princess Micropave solitaire doesn’t double in price from ½ carat center to 1 carat center…it triples in price!  The answer is simple….1 carat diamonds are much, much rarer than a ½ carat diamond so the price really can shoot up.

QUALITY IS THE SECOND FACTOR THAT AFFECTS PRICE

Generally, the better the quality, the more expensive the diamond will be. "Quality" takes into account color, clarity and cut Read about the 4Cs for detailed information>>

Diamonds seem to keep going up in price and yet you want a really nice one for that special occasion. Remember that no diamond is perfect and diamonds are graded based on 10x magnification.  But you are not going to go around with a magnifying glass to looks at your engagement ring.  If budget and price are of utmost concern to you, look for a ring that doesn’t have visible flaws when you look at it without magnification and looks white to you.

CLASSIC QUALITY HI COLOR, I1-I2 CLARITY

We find that the most popular Quality for diamond wedding sets and engagement rings with major jewelry chains and department stores is HI color and I1-I2 Clarity.   We have chosen this particular diamond quality because these diamonds look wonderful in a ring and are reasonably price.  It is the quality that we use in most of our rings and we call this our Classic Quality. We feel this is the perfect balance of quality and price!

UPGRADE TO SIGNATURE QUALITY

Many of our customers like a diamond that is just a little better and so we also offer an upgraded diamond for most rings to a SI clarity.  It raises1 CARAT PRINCESS ENGAGEMENT RING the price just a little bit, but a lot of customers like it.  For example, our 1 carat Pave Princess with a ½ carat Princess Cut Diamond currently sells for $1599. You can choose a SI center diamond for $388 more! SI is the clarity most used by famous name “designers” for their rings. We call our SI Quality rings our Signature Quality.  Read more about how to upgrade to Signature Quality>>

When you decide to upgrade the center diamond in rings with a ½ carat, ¾ carat or 1 carat center diamond in either Princess Cut or Round Brilliant cut, we provide you an independent “diamond report” from  GIA free of charge.  All of our rings  come with a “Certificate of Authenticity and Appraisal” which we provide free of charge  that tells you the quality, color and diamond weight of the rings and the estimated replacement value for  insurance purposes.
