DIAMOND CLARITY

Clarity is the measurement of how free the diamond is of natural inclusions and belmishes. Diamonds are actually a type of carbon that are formed after centureis of pressure and heat from being buried deep in the earth. So they all have a little differences. Sometimes there will be little dark carbon spots and sometimes little white "feathers."

Diamond Clarity

DETERMING CLARITY OF A DIAMOND

The clarity of a diamond is determined when it is viewed face down (actually upside down)  in a laboratory under a microscrope at 10X magnification. Most of these inclusions or blemishes are not visible to the naked eye. The less inclusions the diamond has, the more expensive it will be.

DIAMOND CLARITY SCALE

The clarity of the diamond is graded on a scale beginning with IF (internally flawless). This is a diamond that appears without inclusions or blemishes under 10X magnification. The color grades in order are:

IF  (internally flawless)

These diamonds are very, very rare and very, very expensive.  There are no imperfections or insignificant imperfections.

VVS1-VVS2 (very, very slight inclusion)

These diamonds are also very expensive and very beautiful.  The imperfections are very, very slight and difficult to detect even a laboratory under 10X magnification

VS1-VS2 (very slight inclusion)

These diamonds are still expensive and very beautiful.  The imperfections in these tend to be very slight and white as in feathers or clouds.

SI1-SI2 (slight inclusion)

Diamonds in this category are really beautiful and are more reasonably priced.  They have slight imperfections that are easy to see in the laboratory under 10X magnification, but they are generally not visible to the naked eye. Many of our customers prefer this quality if they are buying a ring with a 1/2 carat or larger center stone. This quality is about 30% more expensive than the I1-I2 quality. You can upgrade to these diamonds on our website in the cart.  They come with a GIA Diamond Certificate.  Read more>>

I1-I2-I3 (included).

These diamonds do have inclusions but are usually difficult to detect with the naked eye, especially in smaller carat sizes.  The I1-I2 quality is our Classic Quality and what we use in most of our rings becuase we find it is the perfect balance of price and appearance.  It is the quality that is most utlized nation wide for the bridal category,.
